Autonomous non-profit organization "Russian International Olympic University" (Riou) was established October 21, 2009 under the Memorandum of Understanding between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee and the Olympic Committee Russia, and according to a decree of the Russian Federation 774. the founders of the University's Department of sport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Sochi 2014 organizing Committee, and investment companies Interros private.

Riou was the first college in the world dedicated to sports business education, offering unique programs infused with Olympic values and experience. Riou's activities focus on the training of experts in sports management industry for the Russian and international sports, and the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. Educational programs of the university include key aspects of sports education: venue and infrastructure management, competitions, media, diplomacy and management, and management career.
Riou launched in 2010 more than 10 training courses specifically for Sochi 2014 employees. Since 2011 the school has been running the professional development program for the Russian leader in the sports sector, employees «Olympstroy» State Corporation and the city administration of Sochi.
Riou in 2013 launched its groundbreaking MBA Sports (MSA) course which is aimed at executives with experience in the sports industry are eager to improve their understanding of economic sports business, equip yourself with the best in class tools and practices, and promoting their career development.
Later, the University will open a sports MBA (ExМSA) postgraduate courses. University is designed to have up to 500 students at a time with a total of graduates from all courses up to 2,000 people Riou each year.

Riou educational activities currently based in Sochi, where the base of brand new modern school placed Riou. Riou headquarters is located in Moscow.
Russian International Olympic University is a landmark project and the key elements of the humanitarian legacy games in Sochi 2014. Graduates Riou will form a new generation of sports managers effective equipped with knowledge and skills to successfully manage sports organizations, events and places in any economic environment.
